The main melody is a call to arms and appears at m. 13 in the lower strings with the eighth-note rhythm interjecting from the upper strings. The melody develops harmonically at m. 34. Make sure to bring out the dynamic contrast in the p to mf crescendo throughout this section. The opening aggressive eighth-note rhythm returns at m. 54 to signal a change in tone. A more reflective, lyrical section follows at m. 61. Be careful not to speed up going back into the fast section at m. 75. This tempo change should be immediate and dramatic.
