Composed by John Lewis. Arranged by James Linn. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Jazz, Swing. 12 pages. James Linn #1452226. Published by James Linn (A0.1893685).

“Django” was recorded in 1954 by The Modern Jazz Quartet, led by pianist John Lewis, bassist Percy Heath, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, and drummer Kenny Clarke. It was later released on 12-inch LP in 1956. One of John Lewis’ most lyrical and best known compositions, Django was dedicated to Belgian guitarist Django Reinhardt who died a year before the recording. In the year 2000, NPR included “Django” in its 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. This arrangement for brass quintet (2 trpts. in Bb, Horn in F, trombone, and tuba) follows closely to the original form, albeit shortened. It also follows MJQ’s original harmonic and rhythmic style. This is an intermediate to advanced level arrangement which may resonate with jazz/classical Third Stream-minded audiences.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
