Dining On The Train - Representative of a piece in Lydian for the With Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series of Cello Choir À La Mode, Dining On The Train is an adventure in 7/4 and G Lydian (2 sharps), that sparks the imagination with images of what it can be like to dine on a train, based on a real life experience. Reflective of the rest of the series, Dining On The Train is a three-part piece for cello trio to cello choir. The Cello 3 part may be played in first position with extensions. Accents, tremolo, a very important solo trill with leading the group back in following a fermata, and half step smears with the first finger, are teaching points in the Cello 3 part, recommending Suzuki Volume 3 or above level cellists. The Cello 2 part looks deceptively easy, with mostly open strings. However, skill must be developed in counting/feeling the rhythm, putting in the accents, and playing quietly at such an advanced tempo. The Cello 2 part also contains half step smears using the first finger in fourth position and tremolo, recommending Suzuki Volume 3 or above level cellists. The melody is carried in the Cello 1 part, which goes into tenor clef, with quick shifts into and out of thumb position, recommending Suzuki Volume 6 or above level cellists.

This second series, the With Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series of Cello Choir À La Mode, is designed for the intermediate, advancing Cello Choir, and is generally more advanced than the No Flats Or Sharps Key Signature Series. Similar to the No Sharps or Flats Key Signature Series, most pieces offer cellists of varying levels the opportunity to play together.
