Tapping into what has now become part of Australian folklore, this organ work attempts to capture the despair of the emaciated members of the ill-fated 19th Century Burke and Wills expedition as they trudged towards their supply depot at Cooper Creek. Unaware of the explorers' whereabouts, or even if they were still alive, the logistics support party departed from the Cooper Creek rendezvous site only hours before the explorers' arrival, having left instructions (carved on what has become known as the "Dig Tree") relating to a nearby buried cache of emergency supplies. Stranded in the Australian Outback, the turn of events proved grim for the explorers. Only one member of the party eventually survived.
