For Voice and Piano German – English. Composed by Werner Richard Heymann. Arranged by Elisabeth Trautwein-Heymann. Vocal Collection. Cabaret, Classical, German Edition. Softcover. 128 pages. Schott Music #ED23960. Published by Schott Music (HL.49047798).
UPC: 196288384489.
Werner Richard Heymann was the musical director of Trude Hesterberg's legendary cabaret “Wilde Bühne”, the most important literary and musical cabaret of the early 1920s. Against the backdrop of political crises, inflation and reactionary attacks, Walter Mehring, Krt Tucholsky, Marcellus Schiffer, Klabund, Leo Heller and many others coined a new literary style: contemporary, realistic, full of brittle poetry, but also ironic, the chansons tell of the big city, the women's fates, passing fashion trends, love lives and the demimonde. Some of these chansons became cabaret classics; others were lost in the turmoil of exile or seemed to have disappeared. This edition presents all of the chansons that Heymann wrote for the “Wilde Bühne”, many well-known, but also many lost ones, which can now be performed again after more than 100 years. The particular appeal of these works lies in the lyrics, and in the snapshot of Heymann's compositional style: while he was already an established composer of orchestral works and art songs at the time of the “Wilde Bühne”, his rise at Ufa began immediately after the end of the cabaret, where he succeeded as a composer of unforgettable hits and served as director until 1933. “Die Kabarettchansons der 'Wilden Bühne'” offer a rich new repertoire for all singers, but also actors and pianists. With reconstructed publications from the estate, pictures and an extensive afterword. German - English.
