De Amerikaanse componist, cornetspeler en dirigent Robert Browne Hall (1858-1907) is bekend gebleven om diverse van zijn fijne marsen waaronder 'Officer of the Day', 'The New Colonial' en 'Death or Glory'. Deze mars werd opgedragen aan de Tenth Regiment Band van Albany in de staat New-York. In 1900 werd op R.B.Hall een beroep gedaan om deze band in handen te nemen en van de ondergang te redden. Het was alles of niets (Death or Glory), maar Hall wist in één jaar tijd de band aan de top te brengen. Zo mocht de Tenth Regiment Band in de Pan-American Exposition te Buffalo optreden, naast o.m. de Sousaband. De mars drukt dan ook Halls terechte trots en vreugde uit.

The American composer, cornet virtuoso and conductor Robert Browne Hall (1858-1907) is still remembered for his fine marches such as 'Officer of the Day', 'The New Colonial' and 'Death or Glory'. The latter was dedicated to the Tenth Regiment Band of Albany, New-York. In 1900 R.B.Hall was invited to become conductor of this band which was in great difficulties. For Hall it was touch and go (Death of Glory!). In less than one year's time Hall managed to bring the band back to the top: The Tenth Regiment Band was invited to perform at the Pan-American Exposition at Buffalo where also the Sousa Band gave a series of concerts. It is logical that this march expresses Hall's appropriate pride and joy.

Le compositeur, cornettiste et chef d'orchestre américain Robert Browne Hall (1858-1907) a été sauvé de l'oubli grâce à ces belles marches dont 'Officer of the Day', 'The New Colonial' et 'Death or Glory' (La Mort ou la Gloire). Cette marche est dédiée au Tenth Regiment Band de Albany dans l'Etat de New-York. C'est en 1900 que l'on fait appel à R.B. Hall pour prendre la direction de cet orchestre qui est sur le point de disparaître. Pour Hall qui accepte le défi, c'est tout ou rien (La Mort ou la Gloire!). En moins d'un an il réussit à ramener l'orchestre en haut de l'échelle et l'orchestre Tenth Regiment Band est invité à participer à la Pan-American Exposition à Buffalo où il joue notamment à côté du célèbre orchestre Sousa. Cette marche exprime toute la fierté de Hall.

'Officer of the Day', 'The New Colonial' und 'Death or Glory' (Tod oder Ruhm). Dieser Marsch wurde dem 'Tenth Regiment Band' aus Albany, im Staat New-York, gewidmet. 1900 wurde R.B.Hall gebeten die musikalische Leitung dieses Blasorchesters auf sich zu nehmen, denn diese Band war nahezu tot. Für Hall stand es auf Messers Schneide ('Death or Glory') aber in wenigen Monaten gelang es ihm das Orchester wieder zur Spitze zu führen. Die 'Tenth Regiment Band' wurde eingeladen in der Ausstellung 'Pan-American Exposition' in Buffalo aufzutreten; dort spielte auch die berühmte Sousa Band verschiedene Konzerte. Der Marsch drückt selbstverständlich die richtige Stolz von Hall aus.
