From the ominous opening, to the flowing and haunting main melody, the piece takes the listener on a sonic journey.The opening should be very marcato with the dynamics exaggerated for the most dramatic effect. Stay aggressive with the playing until m. 33, which transforms into a new section and style. The feel should be light and airy, almost a lilting quality. Allow the melody to have a haunting quality as well. The aggressive style returns from mm. 56–70. The haunting melody resumes at m. 72, but with some added layers and counterpoint. A small climax follows at m. 89. The two styles of playing collide at m. 100. Maintain the energy in the low strings while the upper strings soar. Further development follows, which should build to the final major climax at m. 133. Be mindful of the C# in the second violin to ensure a resounding ending.
