Three distinctive variations on this much-loved Irish melody, Londonderry Air (Danny Boy). This tune is also sung to the Gospel hymn text He Looked Beyond My Faults. These three short arrangements can be played as individual pieces or as a set and they can be played in any order. These pieces are best played on an organ with at least two manuals and, given the wide range of the melody, a pedal board to AGO spec. The first meditation is manuals only with the melody in the left hand. The second meditation is a rich harmonic arrangement with the melody in the right hand. The third meditation is in the style of a baroque trio with the melody in the pedals. The accompaniment in the manuals features an imitative counter-melody composed, as is typical in baroque trio movements, out of the opening four-note sequence of the melody (C# D E F#). The difficulty level ranges from early intermediate (1st meditation), intermediate (2nd meditation), advanced intermediate (3rd meditation).
