This exciting and modern big band piece, chosen as a featured work of ISJAC's 2025 Fall Launchpad in partnership with the Twin Cities Jazz Composer's Workshop, tells the folk tale of a Wolf who longed to catch the Sun. With plenty of woodwind doubles and mixed meters, players express the story through 3 themes: the opening Sun Theme, the angular and jarring Wolf Theme, and the mournful Moon Theme. This piece is challenging but melodies and meters flow naturally and intuitively.
