A mass meant to evoke the power of God in relation to ourselves; a power so vast and frightening that we can hardly comprehend it, and yet through that power we are able to experience His abundant mercy.

This is structurally and thematically represented in each movement. The Kyrie is reminiscent of walking into a giant cathedral and despite its (and God's) seeming vastness, singing, and feeling wholly enveloped. The Gloria is a representation of God's regal nature and our honoring of that. The Credo is a celebration of what He has done and continues to do for us despite any uncertainty that we might face (captured in the rhythmic uncertainty of the piece, but the phrases always ending up evenly balanced). The Sanctus is a dance meant to represent the being of the trinity, encapsulated by there being 3 beats in 1. The Benedictus is a lullaby developed into exuberance, showing that even in the calm, God is there to protect us. And then finally, the Agnus Dei is a reflection of our solitary struggle, a representation of when we are at our most vulnerable, seemingly without God, without organ... with only each other to rely on; when our only hope is prayer, we call to God to "grant us peace.".
