The iconic 2003 hit from Beyonce, 'Crazy In Love' has one of the most recognisable openings to any pop song ever recorded. With its pounding bass, punchy brass hits and funk-inspired drum lines, 'Crazy In Love' was an instant dancefloor and karaoke hit from the moment it burst onto the music scene, featured as the lead single from Beyonce's debut solo studio album 'Dangerously in Love'.
The song was a number-one hit in the United States and United Kingdom, and reached the top ten in various other countries worldwide. The song was universally acclaimed; music critics praised the hook, Jay-Z's contribution, and Beyoncé's assertive vocals. VH1 declared it the greatest song of the 2000s decade, while Rolling Stone ranked it at number 16 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time in 2021, and in 2018, declared the song the greatest of the 21st century so far. At the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004, 'Crazy in Love' won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
In this brand new arrangement, Matt Shaw presents all the original soul and attitude of the song in an clever but accessible version. Keeping the iconic brass riffs, punchy open chords and driving kit, this arrangement was tailored to be approachable by bands of all levels. Melody lines are passed around the band, with something for everyone to do. The kit part is integral to the arrangement, as in the original song, and there is an opportunity to show your kit player off in a 4 bar optional solo.
Originally arranged to be played by Banks Brass Band, at the wedding of their conductor Dave Chapman to his wife Molly in December 2024, and performed as the bridal party and guests danced their way out of the service, this arrangement would ideally suit both concert and contest performances, and is performable by all levels of band from Youth Bands upwards.
