The Vought F4U Corsair was a fighter plane used by the U.S. military in WWII. It was introduced in December of 1942 and used in the Pacific Campaign against the Imperal Japanese Army, who regarded it as "the most formidable American fighter aircraft". It retired in 1953 after the conclusion of the Korean War, but continued for the next few decades to be used by other countries in smaller conflicts.
