The Contemporary Didactic Choros were born from a desire to bring together two musical worlds that have always shaped my artistic path: the discipline of written music — rooted in the concert tradition — and the living soul of choro, a profoundly Brazilian language, refined, rhythmic, and deeply human.
This collection brings together 11 original choros, conceived as a progressive journey. Each piece explores, in an organic musical way, essential technical and expressive elements for the performer — such as articulation, phrasing, voice leading, rhythmic clarity, independence, endurance, dynamics, character, and fluency — while always preserving what makes choro truly choro: its lyrical gesture, its swing, the dialogue between lines, and the emotion that pulses behind every measure.
Despite its didactic purpose, these works were not intended as cold studies or mechanical exercises. On the contrary: each choro was composed as a short musical narrative, with its own identity, personality, and artistic intention. The goal is for the performer to develop technique without losing enchantment — studying real repertoire, filled with musicality, poetry, and energy.
The term “contemporary” here does not imply a break from tradition, but rather a living continuation. The language of this collection engages with traditional choro, with concert music, with expanded harmonies, and with modern writing techniques, always seeking a clear, expressive sound that remains coherent with the instrument.
I dedicate this series to all musicians who see study as a path of transformation — and who understand that technique, when well directed, becomes freedom. May these choros serve as repertoire, as a pedagogical tool, and above all, as music: to be played, shared, and lived.
