This exquisitely beautiful work for violin and orchestra is not often performed. Jascha Heifetz comissioned the composition and premiered it in New York in 1933. The references to Old Testament Biblical events is inherent both in the music and the general title I PROFITI (i.e. THE PROPHETS). Whilst I (the reviewer) am not Jewish, I nevertheless appreciate the wonderful Jewishness surrounding the concerto and I note that the 2nd (slow) movement is entitled JEREMIAH, the 3rd movement (Finale) entitled ELIJAH. This masterpiece is a spectacularly virtuosic & gorgeously melodic vehicle for an intensely rewarding musical experience to be had in performance for soloist, orchestra, listener/audience alike.
