Composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams. 20th Century and British. Set of performance parts. 48 pages. Duration 17'. Oxford University Press #9780193692312. Published by Oxford University Press (OU.9780193692312).ISBN 9780193692312. UPC: 9780193692316. 9x12 inches.
A capricious, lyrical, and nostalgic work, it is often considered to be Vaughan Williams's most successful work in this form. The first movement is pastoral in feeling. The second movement begins with a minuet, light and staccato in nature with a middle section featuring a musette's characteristic long-held drone played by the oboe with the melody in the strings. The third movement is a scherzo and two trios.

He should have written a second one!!!
This is my favorite oboe piece of all time. It is incredibly beautiful and challenging. The piece is characteristically English, as we would expect form Vaughan-Williams. Be warned, it is incredibly difficult and very depression throughout most of the piece. I have had this copy for years and have been working up to some day being good enough to play it. The Poulenc Oboe Sonata is a good stepping stone to help prepare for this piece. I highly recommend this product.
