It is based on one of the most famous trumpet concertos—Joseph Haydn’s Concerto in E-flat major—often included in the required repertoire for trumpet performance competitions.
The cadenza of the first movement is inspired by the version once proposed by Maurice André, here adapted for two voices. The concerto can be approached at various levels of proficiency, and the distribution of parts can be flexible: for example, the first voice of the opening movement may be played by one member of the duo, while the remaining two movements can be performed by the other. In this way, both players share equally in the musical spotlight.
This arrangement is particularly suitable for recitals and even examination performances.
