Piano Quintet
SKU: BR.SON-637
Composed by Jean Sibelius. Edited by Anna Pulkkis. This edition: Linen. Chamber music; Linen. Complete Works. Series IV (Chamber Music) Volume 3: Piano Quintet in G minor JS 159. Late-romantic; Early modern. Complete Works. 220 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #SON 637. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-637).
ISBN 9790004803929. 9 x 12 inches.
The present volume comprises Jean Sibelius’s Piano Quintet in G minor (JS 159). It remained his only finished work in this genre and was completed in Berlin in the spring of 1890. Like so many of Sibeliusʼ early works, the Quintet remained unpublished during his lifetime. Moreover, Sibelius never heard his Quintet performed in concert. It was not until the hundredth anniversary of his birth that the entire work was performed in public for the first time at the Turku Music Festival.
In addition to the five movements that constitute the Quintet in its final form (Grave–Allegro, Intermezzo: Moderato, Andante, Scherzo: Vivacissimo, Moderato–Vivace), another Scherzo movement has survived and is published as an Appendix in this volume.
