Composed by Easthope Martin. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Children,Traditional. Score and parts. 19 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #519225. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808648).
"The sun is ashining to welcome the day, Heigh-ho! come to the fair!" So wrote Helen Taylor as the opening lines to "Come to the Fair." Frederick John Easthope Martin used his tone pallet to paint the perfect musical picture of that sun-shining, going-to-the-fair day, and the result was published in 1917. It remains a popular vocal performance piece; if you sang in a school chorus, chances are good that you sang "Come to the Fair" at least once. It’s also a great number for brass quintet, as this version demonstrates, from the chromatic runs to the horn/trombone duets.
This arrangement was completed in 2012, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 7 seconds. You may contact the arranger, Les Smith, at [email protected]. For more arrangements by Les, enter "Sweetwater Brass Press" (without the quotation marks) in the search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at [email protected].)
