Benton (A0.1547449).This hymn features a new musical tune HEART INFLAMED, 6.6.6.6.8.8, intended for use with Joseph Hart’s hymn “Come Raise Your Thankful Voice” as recorded on p. 207 of Hymns, etc. Composed on Various Subjects, 15th ed., published by S. Kollock, Elizabethtown, 1799. The composer has often attempted to capture the essence of Colossians 3:1-4 in verse, but has never achieved results in any way comparable to Hart’s masterpiece. With love for the precious promises contained in this passage, the composer has attempted to match Hart’s words with a new tune. The minor tune journeys through relative major passages in its harmonic progression in order to properly emphasize the words in each verse. The result is one of the happiest and most thankful minor tunes one might encounter on this side of our heavenly home.
The composer has arranged this version of hymn for elementary piano with an optional teacher’s duet. Full lyrics are included as a benefit to the entire family.
