This motet, which survives anonymously in a composite manuscript, was attributed to Heinrich Schütz, as an inventory lists a double-choir motet by Schütz to this text. In the meantime, however, a suitable, authenticated composition of the text by Schütz has become known (SWV 498), which makes this attribution of the present composition to Schütz less likely. The present setting of this marvellous text about the ‘feelings of spring’ is considerably less demanding for the choirs and remains an interesting alternative.
