Composed by Kenneth Alford. Arranged by Sandy McIntire. This edition: pdf. Contemporary, Film/TV, Instructional, Multicultural, Pop, World. 10 pages. Sandy McIntire #6667459. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.697751).
The Colonel Bogey March is a British tune composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (pen name Kenneth J. Alford), a British Army bandmaster. Inspired by a British military officer who whistled a descending minor third (the notes that begin each line of the first part of the march) rather than shout "Fore!" when playing golf, its sheet music sold over a million copies and the march was recorded many times.
During World War II, the Colonel Bogey March melody was used for a song of the U.S. Women's Army Corps, and in 1951, the Colonel Bogey March was the first music played by a computer. In the film, Parent Trap, the campers at an all-girls summer camp whistle the Colonel Bogey March as they march through camp, mirroring a scene from The Bridge on the River Kwai, and in the The Breakfast Club, the teenage characters whistle the tune during their Saturday detention. The Colonel Bogey March is often miscredited as the River Kwai March. because part of the march was used in the movie. In 2019, the Colonel Bogey March also was used in the TV series The Man in the High Castle.
This arrangement is an Early Intermediate Violin Solo with a simple piano accompaniment. It is fun to play and an audience pleaser for recitals and programs. A separate violin solo sheet is included. Two other early intermediate violin solos with piano accompaniment by McIntire are the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticano and O Store Gud (How Great Thou Art), available at sheetmusicplus.
