Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844658).Climb Ev'ry Mountain, from the stage musical The Sound of Music, is a favorite repertoire standard. This instrumental duet arrangement is written in an expressive way which allows that beautiful melody to soar with some gentle reharmonizations to freshen it. The lower instrument has a walking bass line accompaniment initially, then takes over the melody while the upper instrument has a running flourish. Both parts dramatically cover a full range of 2 1/2 octaves. Unlike many arrangements of this piece which go for bombast, I keep it gentle and quiet with the interest being in the subtle expressive interplay of the two parts. A guaranteed crowd pleaser at any performance.
(Written for my son's Graduation Banquet, proudly performed as a Father-Son duet.)
