Program Notes: Clarinet Sonata No. 3 was composed between 2019 and completed in 2021. The piece opens with a march styled sonata inspired by the opening movement of Carl Stamitz’s Clarinet Concert No. 3 in Bb Major.
The second movement is heavily inspired by Brahms’ second movement of the Clarinet Sonata No. 2 in Eb Major.
The third movement was heavily influenced by the isolation effects of COVID and the emergence of spring occurring simultaneously. I often describe the clarinet solo as being a “lone wolf.” The final movement is a theme and variation that can be played on its own or with the other movements.
Performance Notes: This piece can be performed in full or as individual movements. Perfect for collegiate recitals, professional performances, and independent study.
