The City of New Orleans is a train that travels from Chicago down to New Orleans on the Illinois Central Railroad. The song of the same name, written by Steve Goodman and performed by many, captures the joy, heartache, and mystery of watching the heartland of America pass by from a train car. The arrangement then continues a constant movement between parts, emulating the constant forward motion of a train on a long journey.
