Circle of Riffs, written in early 2023, is a homage to the Greek composer Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou (29th March 1943-17th May 2022), known professionally as Vangelis.
In late 2022 / early 2023, I had been studying scores written by Vangelis as part of an arranging project, noting his resourceful and monothematic use of simple themes, all within Classical / Popular / Electronic Rock music idioms. Circle of Riffs is my homage resulting from these observations.
Circle of Riffs received its World Premiere performance on 1st September 2024 by the Cestrian Guitar Quartet (Ruth Fielding / Bev Henry / David Pugh / Stuart Allcock) at Newchurch Parish Hall, Culcheth, Warrington.
Circle of Riffs, écrit début 2023, est un hommage au compositeur grec Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou (29 mars 1943 - 17 mai 2022), connu professionnellement sous le nom de Vangelis.
À la fin de 2022 / début 2023, j'étudiais des partitions écrites par Vangelis dans le cadre d'un projet d'arrangement, notant son utilisation ingénieuse et monothématique de thèmes simples, dans les idiomes de la musique classique, populaire et rock électronique. Circle of Riffs est mon hommage résultant de ces observations.
