Chromatic March is one of the earliest of my trumpet quartets that we publish. I had been writing trumpet quartets since I was in high school, but the ones we publish are from ten years later.
Chromatic March began as an etude from my first etude book, 20 Studies, which is also available here on Sheet Music Plus. I expanded the etude for four trumpets in the 90's and people have been performing this quirky little piece ever since.
The skill level on Chromatic March is on the advanced side of intermediate. I have had some high school students who have done well on it, but the strange intervals (which give the piece its name) make learning the quartet a little awkward.
