Christ the Lord is Risen Today - an Easter Hymn

In 1739, Charles and John Wesley, both brothers, published 139 hymns titled, "Hymns and Sacred Poems." All fifty of these original hymns were written by Charles Wesley. He wrote this hymn for the first service for the original Wesleyan Chapel in London. The year was 1739. The joyful allelujas at the end of each line were added by Lyra Davidica in 1708.
