Very helpful for interpreting lead sheets.
This series goes beyond the standard books on how to play lead sheets. I have to spend a lot of time on it, because I'm a classical pianist and I was never taught to play lead sheets. It is written for musicians who understand music theory. I'm not sure a layman would be able to use it. I don't consider that a problem. There are plenty of lower-level books for general music lovers.
