This chorale was published with the first edition of The Art of Fugue. Said to have been composed on his deathbed and dictated to a student, it is a fitting conclusion to Bach’s great, unfinished work. The three lower voices weave contrapuntal lines based on the chorale melody, and the trumpets sound the chorale melody in the top voice four times before the harmonically rich conclusion. About 5 minutes in length.
