The hymn tune Diademata is especially well-suited for Easter celebrations. It was composed in 1868 by the English choirmaster and organist Sir George J. Elvy (1816-1893) and is a quintessential example of Victorian hymnody. Specifically written for the hymn "Crown Him with Many Crowns" by Matthew Bridges, its name appropriately derives from the Greek word for "crowns" or "diadems."
Of the many other hymns also set to this tune, Horatius Bonar’s “I Was a Wandering Sheep” and Charles Wesley’s “Soldiers of Christ, Arise” are among the most popular.
