The beginning starts with A high-volume phrase where the performer plays with only their hands, with a gradual transition to sticks. There's an abrupt start to the second phrase, in which there is a lot of single/flam vocabulary. there are periodic breaks throuought, however, the last secion is by far the longest and is a distinct test of the player's ability to play rhythmically dense phrases for an extended period of time.
It's suggested that any one learning this piece should have familiarity with most, if not all, of the marching rudiments.
