Pieces for the dizi, a Chinese bamboo flute, are transcribed and adapted for the Western transverse flute. The CD contains a recording of the original pieces performed by the dizi and a recording of the transcribed version for flute.

Complex but not difficult
The book is a collection of traditional Chinese dynastic songs that are usually played on the dizi. The music typically has an uncountable number of grace notes, which would make it quite a challenge to play, BUT the melody lines are clearly discernable, so you can play the melody and add the grace notes as you become comfortable doing so. The CD is very useful for those who are less than familiar with traditional Chinese music. It's a very good collection of songs.

Chinese Flute Solos
Wonderful music. Much variety. Full ornamentation very challenging but enjoyable even when played simply. Fun on recorder, baroque flute, and chromatic harmonica.

Just what I needed!
I got to go to China last summer with a wind ensemble and play several concerts. When I came home I put together a musical program about some of the things I learned. This book was exactly what I needed to add musical excerpts to my Power Point presentation. The pieces are authentic and the intro to the book was informative. I even played two pieces on an authentic Chinese dizi! Highly recommended.
