Including Turkey in the Straw, Chicken Reel is among the two most well-known poultry-inspired folk tunes. Originally composed by Joseph M. (Michael) Daly in 1910, the novelty song turned folk song later became used commonly in early animated cartoons to depict farmyard activity. The dance tune was developed into this brilliant concert piece by Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) 1946, with touches of humor and unexpected rhythmical variations, which are the hallmarks of Anderson's musical style.
