Cherry Tree by Yukiko Nishimura String Orchestra - Sheet Music

By Yukiko Nishimura

This piece is a sound painting of the loveliness of the cherry tree. It starts with a lush melody as you admire to true beauty of these trees in full bloom, followed by the rattling of the wind as the buds blow off the trees and dance in the wind. This is a musical statement of beauty in every way from composer Yukiko Nishimura. My home country, Japan, inaugurates the season of the blooming cherry tree with ceremonies of welcome and commencement. I wanted to compose a piece that captures the wondrous feeling of these ceremonies; a piece that could proj- ect sentiments of elation or of hopes for a brightening future. The beginning of the piece through m. 28 should be played with much expression. Inner melodies are also important. A lighter atmosphere is introduced in m. 29. The staccato figures in this passage should be light, and sixteenth notes should be played with détaché bowing. The music expands from m. 45 and features longer phrases. The opening section is recapitulated at m. 55. In m. 75 the harmonic pat- terns become more dramatic, only to return to calmness of the opening.I hope the players could feel the full of vitality, hope and dream in this music. And I would be very happy if I could see their smiles during the performance and at the end.
