This is a brass quintet arrangement (2 trpts. in Bb, horn in F, trombone, tuba) with optional bongos of a popular song composed by Marcel Louiguy in 1950. Several versions of this song reached #1 in the U.S., Mexico, and UK. British trumpeter, Eddie Calvert’s instrumental version in 1955 reached #1 in the UK. This advanced level piece for trumpets is rhythmically interesting and has a lively mambo feel. A bongos part is included in the arrangement, but when not being used, the final two measures would need adjusting since the penultimate measure is essentially all bongo. This piece would fit well in a Latin jazz-themed program.
