Hier sind es mindestens drei: Erstens ist das Kammerkonzert ein sehr gutes, faszinierendes Stück, das Interpreten und Zuhörer unmittelbar und direkt fesselt, obwohl es extrem komplex ist. Zweitens behandelt Ligeti darin jedes Instrument wie einen Solisten, so dass jeder einzelne Musiker im Ensemble dankbare Aufgaben hat. Und drittens ist seine Idee der Polymetrik und deren Umsetzung einfach genial: Die Parallelität unterschiedlicher Tempi, hier kombiniert mit „superschnellen solistischen Aktionen" (Ligeti), erzeugt genau den einzigartigen, immer wieder atemberaubenden schwebend-irisierenden „Ligeti-Sound", für den der Komponist bis heute bewundert und verehrt wird.
