Celtic Communion
I'm a musician of middling skill, with recorders, pennywhistles and flutes ready to hand. Most of my pennywhistle playing has been of contradance music. A friend who is a church director of music e-mailed me to suggest I give this a listen, and of course I did. I should say that my buying this was provoked by my liking the sound file a lot, and the ease of ordering and obtaining the music. My friend thought the line for flute-or-whistle would be an easy read, and it was, except for the fact of the key change. But there was a good space of time for me to change from a C-whistle to a D-whistle. My one real problem when I performed with the choir was that for most of page 8 I over-powered the choir, as I realized later listening to a recording, especially measures 84 through 86, with those sustained high notes. Overall, though, playing this with a church choir was a very pleasurable experience.
