‘Catch Me if You Can’ (duration 3'16") is the fourth song in the song cycle of contemporary classical art songs ‘Songs of Love and Desire’ for Mezzo Soprano voice and piano, composed by Margaret Brandman to the passionate lyrics of Désirée Regina.
This is the most up-tempo and rhythmic song in the cycle. The light and breezy mood captures the elation of the lovers. The major key opening stanza in which the piano accompanies the voice, is contrasted in the middle section in the related minor key, when the voice sings an obligato line accompanying the piano solo.
The work has been performed in concert many times by lyricist Désirée Regina and composer/pianist Margaret Brandman who have also recorded the song cycle for the ‘Songs of Love and Desire’ album on the JazzEM music label (MMP8041).
