This ballad is based on an old folk song but reworked became a number 1 hit in 1965 for The Seekers. It's endured over the last 60 years - 'A song that gathers everybody up' says original band bass player Athol Guy. The optional flute part nods to the light and delicate solo guitar line played by Bruce Woodley, as well as the wonderful backing strings they used in later releases of the song. The melody is shared around giving all parts their chance to shine.
