Carmen opera vocal score
This is an excellent edition of the opera. Unlike most editions, this is what Bizet wrote, not recititaves by another composer. It contains all the dialogue that was intended to be spoken, which reveals an extremely great amount of important information -- importantly, that Don Jose had ran away from where he was born, and joined the military because he had already killed someone and was wanted by the law. Understanding little details like that makes his character development completely understandable, and fully explains why in his mind he must kill Carmen. All the dialogue throughout the opera is extremely revealing about all the characters, and their motivations, and their backstories. The traditionally sung through version robs the listener of all that important information. This edition also explains what was done when the opera was premiered, and includes various changes that were made at various times. Well worth having.
