The opera Carmen is one of the most successful operas in the world. This was not expectable at its first performance on 3 March 1875 in Paris, where the reactions of the audience and critics were partly negative. There have been compiled serveral suits out of the opera, none of them by Bizet himself, who did not live to see its success. This arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for orchestra. The Carmen Suite in this version premiered on 11 May 2012 in the Large Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer. The Prélude alone was first performed also by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer on 6 January 2014 in the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria.
