The Cantummit Waltz is a delightful little waltz that was originally written for a pit orchestra for a Speakeasy Show. It is great for a small, Easy Intermediate Concert Band that wants to play something at their level that sounds more complex than it really is. The music might be from a circus, but falls easily into the Folk, Traditional or even Comedy categories. It has a few distinctive features about it:
*It sounds a bit off kilter because it has seven-measure phrases.
*To balance the unusual phrasing, there are also two countermelodies presented, with the final A section featuring the main melody and both countermelodies in a grand calliope sound.
*All of the notes and intervals are designed to be relatively easy to play.
The "Cantummit Waltz" is called that because I found it hard to hum a few bars when asked to do so by some people who were helping me name it. So they suggested that I call it the "I Can't Hum It Waltz". "Can't Hum It" became "Cantummit".
