By Rafa Leme. Composed by Rafa Leme. Arranged by Rafa Leme. This edition: pdf, streaming. Jazz, Latin, Multicultural, World. 38 pages. Rafa Leme #1367958. Published by Rafa Leme (A0.1807741).
Canto do Macuco is an instrumental work written for alto saxophone, string quartet, jazz guitar, double bass, and drums. The composition brings together elements of contemporary Brazilian music with procedures drawn from chamber music and modern jazz, exploring the contrast between fixed writing and interpretive freedom.
The alto saxophone assumes a solo and thematic role, presenting and developing the main melodic materials. The string quartet functions as a harmonic and contrapuntal framework, alternating between textural blocks, independent voices, and sustained timbral layers. The jazz guitar contributes harmonic color and melodic commentary, while the double bass establishes the rhythmic–harmonic foundation with an organic and grounded approach. The drums operate with subtle dynamics, punctual accents, and textural variation, avoiding an overly explicit or dominant rhythmic approach.
The work emphasizes balance between lyricism, sonic density, and space, fostering collective listening and the integration of chamber music language with popular instrumental traditions.
