Designed to introduce musicians to 12/8 time, switching triple and duple rhythms, and preparing to play swing. At the same time, the piece is valuable as an interesting performance work. Written for first position, except for a brief spot in the cello part, which calls for fifth position. Sustained melodic notes allow plenty of opportunity to practice vibrato.
Slightly more advanced arrangements, in the key of D major, are also available for cello trio, string quartet, and string orchestra.
