This setting of “Can Love be Controll’d by Advice?” from The Beggar’s Opera is conceived for soprano (Polly) with a small ensemble of muted strings. This is the vocal score, with piano reduction. The original melody was "Grim King of ther Ghosts", which may be why I decided to set it with a slightly spooky air, lots of creeping chromatics!
