This song was inspired by a black-and-white sketch in a clip art resource. In a close-up rendering of Messiah as a toddler, the pupils of His eyes featured small, white crosses. While we do not know precisely at what pace our Lord's awareness of His mission advanced, we do know that by age 12 He was already asking, "Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" That being the case, how early in life did the sight of a thorn bush, a piece of wood or a lamb mean far more to Him than to anyone else? This is a very tender and thought-provoking journey into what the "weight" of the cross meant to our Lord's heart, mind and soul for most of His life. It does us well to try to enter into the feelings of His agonies - as even now He is entering into ours.
