The lyrics for By Strauss pay tribute to the music of the waltz kings: Johann Strauss Jr. and Sr. The singer describes their dislike of Broadway composers (including Gershwin), and that they would rather dance to Strauss waltzes, referencing the blue Danube and Die Fledermaus. It was featured in the 1951 movie An American in Paris, performed by Gene Kelly, Georges Guétary, and Oscar Levant.
