Bushfire & Flood for guitar quartet or guitar orchestra
This two-movement piece is a meditation on the extremes of the Australian environment.
The opening of part I. Bushfire opens with the first few flames of a bushfire, which grow to an unstoppable conflagration at letter C. The section at letter E portrays the aftermath of the fire: the desolation and then the stirrings of new life.
Part II. Flood begins with rain falling, and the rain motif continues throughout the piece. The movement incorporates two fragments from the John Dowland song Go Crystal Tears.
