This song has been used in times of the rising democracy in the 1840s pushed by german students in the 1848 revolution.
The lyrics explain the roles of citizens in democracy and states that there is no difference between workers or clerks or bosses in respect of civil rights.
The uncommon rhythm is switching between 5/4 and 6/4. There is always a vocal drum pattern which reminds of a Bolero pattern running from one voice to another. In a climax the volume rises to cumulate in a heroic march of the democrats standing up for their rights.
I tried to modernize the german lyrics and added LGBT aspects as well as nowadays professions in crafts and industry.
