It first appeared in print in 1668 in a book of twelve Provençal noels by Nicolas Saboly. Jeannette and Isabella are two women who find the baby and his mother in a Provençal stable.
This arrangement by McIntire is for a string trio, two violins and cello at an intermediate level. It interprets the carol in a classical counterpoint style. A solo sheet is provided for each instrument.
